What can Group Prayer do for me & my
Family?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matthew 18:19-20 (King James
Version)
"Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth
as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for
them of my Father which is in heaven.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there
am I in the midst of them."
The works of God begin and end in prayer. Nearly all revival
movements in our country's history were characterized by a
commitment to group prayer. Whether we know it or not, we have
benefited from God's people meeting together to pray.
Today's Christians often find their strongest moments of prayer
in small groups with a few other believers. They do other things
in a small group, too : Bible study, singing, and just being a
small community together with each other. These are a few
examples of what helps create a bond with your spiritual family.
The most intimate communion with God comes through prayer. But
we are also created for each other, and it is through intimacy
such as united prayer that we find our greatest sense of
fellowship with one another. You may be embarrassed to pray in
front of others. You may feel you are not necessarily equipped
with the right words to pray aloud or maybe you aren’t sure how
to pray to God. Most all of us have experienced these
feelings at some time or other. Even the disciples in the Bible
asked the Lord to teach them how to pray. We grow best when we
are supported in prayer by others. We are encouraged and
challenged as others pray.
By listening to others and vocalizing our own prayers we learn
to pray more effectively. We need the support that a caring
community can provide. Strength lies in numbers -- numbers of
praying people. |
